Wearing a saree becomes much easier when you follow a few simple steps. Here's a clear point-by-point guide for beginners.
Step 1: Wear Your Blouse & Petticoat
Start by wearing a well-fitted blouse and matching petticoat. Tie the petticoat securely at your natural waist, as it will hold the saree in place.
Step 2: Tuck the Plain End
Take the plain (non-pallu) end of the saree and tuck it into the petticoat. Wrap one complete round around your waist from right to left.
Step 3: Make the Front Pleats
Gather the remaining fabric into 6–8 even pleats. Make sure the pleats are straight and equal in width, then tuck them neatly into the center of your petticoat.
Step 4: Drape the Pallu
Bring the remaining fabric over your left shoulder to create the pallu. Adjust the length so it falls gracefully behind you.
Step 5: Arrange & Pin
Neatly arrange the pallu pleats if desired and use a safety pin to secure both the front pleats and the shoulder pallu for extra comfort.
Step 6: Final Styling
Smooth out the fabric, check the saree length, and complete your look with jewelry, footwear, and a confident smile.
Quick Tips
- Wear your heels before draping the saree.
- Keep pleats neat and evenly aligned.
- Use safety pins only where necessary.
- Choose a pallu style that suits the occasion.
